Re: Update to our October 27th letter.
Dear Minister Miller,
Following up on our October 27th letter, we have an update on our sector’s passionate support of Rocket Fund Canada, our country’s only dedicated children’s and youth media fund.
Our grassroots campaign responds to the crisis in Canada’s children’s media industry and the urgent need to secure Rocket Fund’s future while the government and CRTC determine next steps under the Online Streaming Act. More than a year after Rogers Communications withdrew its support, we risk losing a vital partner whose expertise, investment and leadership strengthen our sector and champion Canadian children’s and youth content at home and abroad. Despite significant financial pressures, our companies are contributing to sustain Rocket Fund’s work while decisions about its future are pending.
In the past 48 hours, 31 independent producers have raised $202,500 to support Rocket Fund Canada operations. Combined with Shaftsbury’s pledge, the total raised is nearly $400,000.
Our grassroots initiative has gone national and global. Yesterday, Kidscreen Magazine picked up the story internationally, as did Playback in Canada.
Emails from broadcasters, streamers, funders and producers from around the world — the UK, Ireland, New Zealand, Australia, Germany, France, the US — are landing in the inboxes of Canadian independent producers and Rocket Fund Canada, offering support.
The global children’s and youth media sector is inspired by the Canadian media community. It deeply values Rocket Fund Canada. At a time when quality children’s television is diminishing world-wide, Rocket Fund supports Indigenous, French and English language perspectives to children and families in Canada and the world.
The independent producers who have been able to support our fundraising initiative represent all of Canada: our diversity; our Indigenous, French, and English-speaking communities; the West Coast, Prairies, Central Canada, Quebec, and the Maritimes.
The producers lead large media companies, like Shaftesbury and 9 Story Media Group, as well as mid-sized and many small companies. Spin Master provided a generous donation yesterday and said that their staff were all trained on Rocket Fund Canada-supported productions – they couldn’t imagine what the Canadian children’s and youth media sector would look like without the existence of the Fund.
On behalf of the children’s and youth media sector, below is the current list of contributing producers who are asking for the Government of Canada to step in to preserve Rocket Fund Canada:

Ken Faier, President, Epic Story Media
Steve Couture, Président, Epic Story Worlds
